The RESULTS are IN!
We are reviewing the video tapes, but at first glance it appears the
Cops beat the Firefighters in the 1st Annual Police vs. Fire Regional
Rowboat Face-Off.Both teams braved temperatures nearing 100 degrees, but still gave it their best. The McKenzie Cup was presented to Det. Frank McClain, PPD Rowing Recruiter. Although the Cops won't keep it long, they are proud to hold on to it for awhile. A good time was had by all, with a crowd of over 200 watching the races and Brookline Fire Co. #35 coming all the way from Haverford, Delaware Cty. to race. A special thanks to the PFD for their full support, Sgt. Greg Masi for knocking himself out during this very busy time for the PPD, Local 22 and FOP #5 for putting up the $1,000 wager, The Second Alarmers for taking care of the racers in this heat and the Independence Seaport Museum for providing the boats and hosting the event. KYW 1060 Newsradio is running a great piece on the event all day, with NBC10 News and the Philadelphia Inquirer also on location. So far we've exceeded $3,200 in donations and counting.

Opponents will be matched, when possible, by municipality and amount of funds raised, i.e. a pair of Philly Firefighters raising $500 will race a pair of Philly Cops who raised $500.That's $1,000 riding on that heat. The winning boat adds $1,000 to their team's (Police or Fire) total, which will determine the winning team at the end of the day.
