The Philadelphia Firefighter & Paramedic Union Local 22 IAFF conducts a year round program to benefit the Widows of our deceased members. The program is called the Local 22 Widows Fund, of the Local 22 Charitable Trust.
Local 22 represents over 4,000 active and retired firefighters and paramedics. Therefore we leave no one behind. That includes the spouses of our deceased members. Many of the widows are collecting as low as $250.00 pension per month, most are in the range of $350.00 to $600.00 depending on when and how long the spouse was a Local 22 member.
Every year the 2,000 active members and retired volunteers collect and donate to the fund. Last year the membership of Local 22 spent $98,259.00 on Thanksgiving Turkey Baskets, Christmas gifts and a luncheon. These gifts directly effect the well being and state of mind of the recipients during the holiday season, and financially assists the elderly who are trying to manage meager earnings in today's economy.
